Common Speech and Language Disorders

Speech and language are different. Language refers to the broad aspect of spoken, written, and expressive communication. On the other hand, speech is a part of language and refers to the sounds we make to communicate.
Some of the most common speech and language disorders include:

Articulation problems:

this disorder makes it difficult to make some sounds properly or inability to make the sounds altogether. For example, the substitution of “s” for “th”.

Resonance or voice problems:

the disorder makes it is difficult to produce quality voice or the volume is inaudible. The problem can result from conditions like cleft palate.

Fluency problems:

this condition is exhibited in disorders like stammering where there are stops or repetition of sounds.

Receptive disorder:

the problem makes it difficult to process communication from other people.

Expressive disorder:

the challenge makes it difficult to express oneself effectively. The condition manifests in incoherent construction of sentences, mismatch of facial expressions with spoken language, among others.

Cognitive problems:

this condition entails problems with attention or memory. The patients find it difficult to remember or pay attention.

How Therapy Works

Our speech and language pathologists start with the assessment process to determine your disorder and its severity. We do a deep analysis of the cause of the problem so that we can treat the problem from the source.
After the assessment, we create a custom intervention strategy to address your condition. Our speech therapists walk with the patients through the exercises and keep adjusting the activities depending on the progress.
Apart from the activities you undertake at our speech and language therapy center, we also formulate exercises for the patient to do at home.
